Optometrist
Dr. Islam joined Commerce Family Eyecare in 2003 and has been providing dependable, full-scope care to patients ever since. He brings more than two decades of experience in optometry, with a steady, patient-first approach that reflects the values of the clinic.
He earned his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, following a Bachelor of Science in Biology, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was recognized as one of UAB’s top international students. Earlier in his academic journey, he received a Certificate of Excellence from the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh in recognition of his academic achievements.
Dr. Islam provides care in all areas of primary eye care, including contact lens fitting, management of ocular disease and injuries, and vision therapy. His clinical training included internships at the Birmingham VA Hospital and Vision America, a multi-specialty ophthalmology group.
Patients appreciate Dr. Islam’s calm demeanor, detailed explanations, and consistent care. Outside the office, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two children.
